The waving motion of kelp in ocean waters inspired “Laminaria”. The three entwined ribbons of stainless steel dance and twist in space creating a whirlpool of energy that is both soothing and stimulating. The tall poles that support each ribbon provide a strong visual line of contrast to the twisting curving forms as they spiral upward. The three discs evoke the float-balls of bull kelp and structurally tie the composition of forms together. This piece is on display in the Sculpture Garden on San Juan Island.
