Spirit Uplifting

Stainless Steel, Corten Steel, Gold Leaf & Urethane on a Cylinder Base          18”X 18.5” X 32.5”

This stainless steel piece began as a continued exploration of the shape of flames. I had worked with this idea in an earlier fireplace surround and mantle and was still interested in the curve and elegance of line that can occur within that form. The shape became more abstracted from that idea as I worked with it and I think now it allows the viewer to “see” any number of things. These varying images and resulting responses hopefully allow the viewer pleasure over a long period of time.  The gold leaf highlights the internal spaces and moves the viewer within the otherwise closed form. I continue to love the juxtaposition of the coolness of the stainless with the warmth of the corten steel.
